Session 1 Supporting
children to develop an understanding & respect for the natural environment
This includes

Provide children with information & access
to resources about the environment

Develop children’s understanding of impact of
human activities on the environment
A few points to think about for your blog:

about the impacts of human activity on the environment?

Could you explain why it is important to support
children to develop an understanding & respect for the natural environment?
Session 2
Supporting children
to develop an understanding & respect for the natural environment including
promoting life skills
This includes
·
Assist in creating spaces that promote the development
of children’s life skills including growing & preparing food
·
Assist in creating spaces that promote the
development of children’s life skills including waste management
A few points to think about for your blog:

In the National Quality Standards, Standard
3.3:staes that ‘The service takes an
active role in caring for its environment and contributes to a sustainable future’. Explain how involving children’ in gardening
supports this statement.

Can you give an example of how you as the
educator in a 3 to 5 year room would support children to develop understanding
of waste management strategies?
Session 3 Assist in
providing opportunities for children to explore natural environment.
This includes
·
Use opportunities to discuss with children the
natural environment & the
interdependence between people, plants & , animals & the land
·
Use intentional teaching strategies including
role modelling respect, care & appreciation for both and natural &
constructed environments
·
Provide children with a wide range of natural
& recycled materials in both indoor & outdoor environments
·
Encourage children to be involved in discussions
& experiences about sustainable practices

Session 4 Identify
areas for change in a Children’s Service to ensure they are supporting
sustainability.
This includes

Identify aspects of sustainability in a service

Identify opportunities for change to current
practices & principles to ensure they are sustainable
·
Develop, implement & evaluate strategies to address areas of
sustainable change
·
Encourage educators & children to
participate in the sustainable practices in a service
·
Identify opportunities for families &
community to be involved in sustainable practices

One of the most important influences on
children’s behaviour and attitudes is how the significant adults in their lives
act. How do you role model sustainable practices in your day-to-day work with
children?

Explain why it is beneficial to encourage
educators & children to participate in sustainable practices in a service?
